Good tidings

I took the vegetable garden fencing down weeks ago. I’d like to try a homemade split rail next year. This past seasons fencing was only half the height we usually do and it managed to keep the deer out just fine.

Cascading fallen brown grasses bordering an open winter field surrounded by tall evergreen trees, a greenhouse sits in the distance.

We’ve had one or two light frosts. It shows. The birds have started heading further south for the winter. There’s still a few hours of warmer temps lingering around the field most days and I finally ordered a pair of winter garden gloves.

In this moment, I admired the dried up cascading remains with little pops of fresh green in between. I was glad I hadn’t tidied up yet. There’s something about just letting the garden be. To experience it in all cycles of its life that is beautiful. Natural maybe, is the right word.

Whose idea was it to “tidy” gardens anyway?
